Position Title:  Project Engineer (Exempt)

Reports to: Vice President of Operations, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Senior Project Engineers

 

Direct Reports:  Project Administrators, Carpenter Foreman, Carpenters, Runners, Laborers

 

Primary Functions:

  • Assist with the overall administrative and technical direction of assigned projects.Assist with the execution of assigned projects.

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the assigned projects by implementing plans and policies to achieve overall Company objectives and maximize operations.

 

General Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Conduct individual and business affairs in the highest ethical and legal fashion

  • Establish and contribute to a supportive, creative, enthusiastic, and cooperative working environment for all.

  • Assist with specific objectives, performance standards, and individual development plans for the project as noted below:

  • Project Control

  • Thoroughly understand plans and specifications.Compliance with project’s documents.

  • Analyze the project during preplanning for anticipated problem areas.

  • Knowledge to seek solutions in problem-solving and cost-saving measures.

  • Learn the UBC, ADA, and other trade codes.

  • Learn cost-saving areas - materials, techniques, sequencing, etc.

  • Understand Change Proposal/Change Order process.

  • Understand and follow-through of preplanning requirements.

  • Understand safety requirements.

  • Able to complete project documentation - logbook, reports, letters.

  • Learn the Closeout process and requirements.

  • Understand the submittal and material procurement process for scheduling and monitoring with timely updating of reports.

  • Learn quality control work and compliance requirements.

  • Understand the project Cost Report.

  • Learn to Set-up and run preconstruction meetings.

 

Customer Service

  • Good communicator.

Typical Duties:

  • Assist and oversee (if able to) the total construction effort to ensure the project is constructed by following design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with Client, Architect, Engineers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, Unions, and other agencies to facilitate construction activities.

  • Ensure all Company, Client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc. are adhered to. Interpret policies as required with the guidance of the Senior Project Manager/Project Manager/Senior Project Engineer.

  • Assist with the project’s direction for planning, scheduling, safety, change orders, and project management functions, as required.

  • Able to understand Company policies, procedures, and organizational structure.

  • Assist with the direction and monitoring of short-term and long-range plans consistent with overall project profit and growth objectives.

  • Able to guide subordinates toward their professional development while developing and maintaining a competent Company team through communications, the delegation of responsibility and authority.

  • Coordinate and confer with staff to resolve operating problems and difficulties. Assist in the establishment of project operational procedures.

  • Learn to complete monthly project billing on time.

  • Learn to process project invoices by reviewing and approving with the guidance of SPM/PM, process, on a timely basis.

  • Ensure all work activities on the project is done safely and productively.

  • Proactively communicate with all team members regularly.

  • With training able to run projects independently (up to $250,000).

 

 

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent, plus extensive experience in the management of construction projects.

  • Some knowledge of the construction industry, company operations, philosophy and mission statement, customer service, employee relations, construction contracts law, and marketing.Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) and analytical skills.

  • Able to Read and comprehend interpretations of plans and specifications.

  • Review submittals for compliance and follow-up with subcontractors/vendors.

  • Understand the basic sequencing of the project. Understand CPM scheduling and utilize the computer to put CPM together.

  • Computer literate in documentation, and spreadsheets.

  • Follow directions and show initiative.

  • 0-3 years of Construction Experience

 

 

Most Difficult Part of this Job:

  • Maintaining the focus on improvement, teamwork, while motivating self, subordinates, carpenters, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve the level of quality and performance required to meet project goals.

  • Ensuring proper expectations are communicated to owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and in-house personnel. Ensuring every project is built to Allied Builders System company standards from the start of construction through completion.
